FAQ
Who founded The Furies Collective?
The Furies Collective was founded in 2024 by Tere Stevens and Barb Kulesz. It is based in Darien, Connecticut.
Tere grew up in Paris. Barb has family ties to Argentina. They built the brand on a shared belief: that a beautiful object should be made by people who care, in places that have done it for generations.
Where are the bags made?
Every Furies bag is hand-finished in Argentina by a third-generation, family-run atelier. The leather is pebble-grain and certified by the Leather Working Group, an international standard for environmental performance in tanneries.
What does "Leather Working Group certified" mean?
The Leather Working Group is an international organization that audits and rates leather manufacturers on environmental and social performance — water use, energy, chemical handling, traceability. Our atelier sources from LWG-certified tanneries. It is the most rigorous third-party standard in the leather industry.
How should I care for pebble leather?
Pebble leather develops a patina over time. That is part of its character — a record of how she carries it.
To keep it well: store the bag with its dust bag and a paper insert to hold its shape. Keep it out of direct sunlight when not in use. If it gets caught in rain, blot — never rub. A soft, dry cloth is enough for routine cleaning. Every six to twelve months, a small amount of pH-balanced leather conditioner keeps the leather supple.
Avoid baby wipes, alcohol, and all-purpose cleaners. They strip the natural oils and dull the finish.
What does the snake logo mean?
The snake on every Furies bag stands for renewal. A snake sheds its skin to grow into the next version of itself — quietly, without ceremony.
It is the small, embossed signal that this bag was made for a woman who lives the same way: someone who chooses well, lives with the choice, and grows into it.
Are you the same as the historic Furies Collective in Washington, DC?
No. The historic Furies Collective was a 1971–1972 lesbian feminist group in Washington, DC. Their house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2024. We share a name, but we are a separate, unrelated business — founded in 2024 in Darien, Connecticut by Tere Stevens and Barb Kulesz.
We respect the historic Furies and their place in American history. The two are distinct.
Why don’t you offer discount codes?
A Furies bag is priced for what it is: hand-finished leather, made in small runs, by craftspeople who have practiced for three generations. We do not run percentage-off promotions, because they undermine the work and signal that the price is negotiable. It isn’t.
We do offer something else: an invitation to the list. Members hear about new colors and new collections first.
Where do you ship?
We ship within the United States. International shipping is on the way as we expand. Domestic orders typically leave the workshop within two business days. Shipping is $10–20 depending on the carrier selected at checkout.
What is your return policy?
We hope you love your Furies bag. If you do not, we accept returns within 15 days of receipt for a full refund (less shipping). Items must be returned new, unused, with all packaging, accessories, and the dust bag intact.
Once the package reaches our warehouse, please allow 15 business days for inspection and processing. To start a return, write to us at wearethefuriescollective@gmail.com.
Where can I see the bags in person?
The Furies Collective is online-first. We do occasional pop-ups and events in the New York and Connecticut area — they are announced on Instagram (@wearethefuriescollective) and to the email list before they happen.
For a private viewing in Darien, Connecticut, write to us. We say yes when we can.
